Sharing the insights from our research on how we can improve

In 2020, Essex County Council undertook a series of engagement activities in relation to our Short Breaks service. We conducted an extensive survey, spoke directly with parents in one-to-one conversations and in focus groups. This has given us invaluable insight into families’ experiences of the current Short Breaks offer for children and young people with special educational needs and / or disabilities.

We had a great response to this work and would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their experiences with us. What you told us will help inform our new Short Breaks Commissioning Strategy and the re-design of our current community clubs and activities offer.

We have already fed-back our findings to those people who have helped us and had some great Zoom discussions. We are now delighted to be sharing this information wider to as many families that we can. Please find below links to the report and to our special film featuring some fabulous Essex families who were happy to share their experiences with us. Please look out for future opportunities to see how you can get involved with designing the Short Breaks offer.
